Lowry, Dexter Make It Throughlt;cv1ctrttfstI[iliaJIM DEXTERKOKOMO—Logansport’s Jim Dexter and Kurt Lowry advanced to the state swimming meet jS a new LHS record. The oldoff his LHS record.Dexter broke his school re- I cord in the 100-yard backstroke but still ended second in the sectional. His placing, however, was good enough to put him into the finals.Dexter turned in a 1:03.7 which clipped his previous low of 1:04.1. The event was won by a Haworth swimmer in 1:02.9.Haworth won the overall team battle with a total of 66 points. Kokomo was second with 60, t Fort Wayne Snider third with i 52, Fort Wayne North fourth f with 38 and the Berries fifth £ with 28. Lewis Cass ended last | lt;and failed to score in the 10- g team meet.The trials were conducted Saturday morning, and the fastest six swimmers competed in the finals.The Bernes were fourth in the 200-vard medley relay, and' -j also chalked up another school! f record. The team, composed of Dexter, Lowry, Craig Burton and Roger Beeler, turned in a 1:56.3, which broke the old standard of l:o6.9.Fort Wayne Snider won the relay in 1:51.Jon Williams of the Berries was fifth in the 2t)0-yard individual medley in 2:31.8, which was another LHS record. The old mark was 2:32.3. Kokomowon the event in 2:10.Beeler gave Logansport another fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle as he ended in 26,5.The winning time was 23.3.Logansport’s Dave Packard was sixth in the diving competition with 204 points. A Kokomo performer won the event with a total' of 395.9 points.The Logansport 400-yard relay team captured a third place ribbon in 3:52.9 which naturaHys(icIrl1cfSaturday afternoon by placing second in their events during the Haworth sectional.Logansport ended fifth in the tourney in its best showing since the sport began at LHS.Lowry, competing in the breastroke, ended a second behind the winner to capture the state berth.
