Salem Central, which ended up third at Beloit, will also send 10.In Class B competition. East Troy, which a week ago captured its seventh straight Southern Lakes Conference title, held off Rock Valley champion Clinton by a 158-135 margin to win the Elk-horn regional. The Trojans qualified eight individuals to Clinton’s five for a trip to the Sheboygan Falls sectional.At Orfordville Parkview, Whitewater rolled up 193 points to outdistance second-place Lake Mills by 38. As a result, the Whippets will be represented by nine wrestlers at Sheboygan Falls, while Lake Mills will have eight individuals.Marshall qualified eight in capturing its own regional title with 186*6 points. Johnson Creek, which tied the Cardinals for first in the Eastern Suburban Conference meet last week but captured the overall title with a better dual-meet record, had to settle for second place at Marshall with 155 points. Both teams, however, advanced seven qualifiers to the Waterloo sectional.In the other Class C regional. South Wayne Blackhawk edged host Belleville, 165-164, also advancing seven wrestlers to Waterloo, while Belleville will send six.Dan Spilde, last year’s 132-pound Class A state champion, heads the returnees for Stoughton, which won six title bouts. Spilde notched a pin in the 138-pound finals to advance. Teammate Chris Vike, who took third at Madison a year ago. won the 155-pound regional title Saturday.Aric Soderbioom became the third Stoughton regional champ who went to state a year ago. winning on a pin at 98 pounds. He was fourth at Madison last year. Soderbioom. Spilde and Vike all won their regional titles with victories over Burlington wrestlers.Tom Larson, defending Class B state champ at 98 pounds, won the Elkhorn regional title on a pin at 112 to head the list of East Troy winners.Teammate Paul Brehm, fifth at Madison last year, pinned his opponent to win the 145-pound title at Elkhom. All told, the Trojans annexed six individual titles, whiie Clinton’s Cougars got wins from A.J. Rossman at 119 pounds, as well as Troy Lantz at 167 and Terry Vanderkooi at 185Other Class B individual regional winners Saturday who made it to state a year ago include Orfordville Parkview’s Rob Kleinschmidt, who won the 167-pound title at Parkview on a technical fall.Also at Parkview, Whitewater’s Paul Jones and Charlie Coe won titles at 132 and 138. respectively, in their attempt to reach the state tournament for the second straight year.In Class C. Johnson Creek’s Matt Dressel began his drive for a third straight state title by winning the Marshall regional title at 119 pounds.Brewers sign Deer to pactThe Milwaukee Brewers and slugger Rob Deer have agreed to a one-year contract and will not go to arbitration to settle a salary dispute, the club announced Saturday.Terms of the contract were not available.
