Bad Publicity May Have HurtRumors are gaining momentum in Sapporo, Japan, that Bunny Aheame, the International Ice Hockey czar, is losing his grip ... The word is that Bunny will be severely challenged to make it again as European president of the International Ice Hockey Association ... If this is so, a Czech official may be in line to succeed him .. . However, knowing Ahearne, we doubt very much he will lose control... Bunny is a great little infighter, as many Canadian hockey officials over the years have come to learn .■. For the most part he has generally managed to get the better of them in any arguments ... However, it may well be that the bad publicity he has received over Canada’s1 withdrawal from international and Olympic hockey may yet prove to be the blow that will do him in ... Most countries in the EHF want to see Canada back in the fold because they know that without a Canadian team participating, the winners of the world and Olympic events are hollow champions ... Meantime, Canada’s Fred Page, who is the North American president of the IIHF, seems to be gaining more stature in the eyes of the Europeans ... Page points out that the one problem Europeans really don’t understand, is the multiplicity of people they have to deal with in Canada — the CAHA, Hockey Canada and the pros . .. They grow to tinstone group then find themselves dealing with another ... Oh yes, a lot of those people who applauded when Canada withdrew from the World and Olympic competition are now having second thoughts ... The Games in Sapporo just weren’t the same without a team from the Dominion participating —
