WVC Rally Falls Short; Edged By Olney, 66-64BY BILL GERDESThe Olney Community College Blue Knights held off a last minute WVC rally Saturday night to deal the Warriors their ninth loss of the season and the. lr fourth In SICCplay. The Blue Knights eked out a 66-64 win despite a Warrior comeback In the last minute of play that cut the Olney lead from six to two with ten seconds remaining. Tom Hlggenbotham led the War. rlor comeback with 15 points, four of which came In the last minute to pull the Warriors to within two. The Warriors were down by nine, 65-56, with 3:00 to play. A basket by Jerry Scott and two free throws by Bob Johnson cut the OCC lead to five. OCC’s Don Roberts drop, ped In one of a pair of free thro-ws and WVC pulled down the rebound of the second shot. Hig-genbotham’s Jumper cut the lead to four with 1:00 left. OCC’s Don McDonald was fouled but missed both shots and another Hlggenbotham bucket cut the lead to two with 35 secs rema-lning. Olney brought the ball back down court and lost It out of bounds to the Warriors. The Warriors were unable to get the good shot and a Bob John-son attempt went wide with ten seconds to play. But thp War. rlors were not yet finished. Don Roberts was fouled and Olney had their chance to ice the ball game with a pair of free throws. Bob Johnson and Jerry Scott had 14 each. Terry Fox had eight.For the Blue Knights, It was Rod Doris who paved the way. Doris hit 11 field goals, six straight In the second half, and one free throw for game honors and 23 points. Don McDonald and Don Roberts tossed In 19 and 17 respectively.The Warriors hit 26 of 62 from the field for 41.9 per cent and hit 12 of 16 from the free throw line. Olney shot an even 50 per cent from the field on 28 of 56, but was cool from the charity stripe hitting only 10 Of 21.The loss brings the WVC slate to 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the SICC.
