The clinic was led by Coach Dave Armbruster of Iowa University, who is ranked at the very top of swimming coaches in this country. His championship Iowa relay team, f | composed of Ray Walters, Bob Reed, Dick Westerfield, and Bob Chidstians, aided by giving wonderful exhibitions. Another famous mentor, Coach Ai'tieEilers of Washington University, a*•member of the national rules committee, was in charge of several discussions.NLarge Attendance That the clinic met with approval I | in this section was shown by the fact that? every St. Louis high school with a swimming team was represented as well as some of the “Y” teams. Williams. In addition there were over one hun-| dred swimmers, boys and girls, whoshowed keen interest in all proceedings, and many cadets. Some coaches and officials did not register. It was 1 estimated that one hundred and thirty-five visitors attended.Talk By Art EilersMajor R. K. Latham and Coach Newell Williams saw that things ran ;t | smoothly. Major Latham, Western’s athletic director, started the program at 2:30 P. M. by welcoming all visit-| ors. He then introduced Artie Eilers, swimming coach of Washington University, who talked upon the new rules and officiating. As he is a member of the rules committee, he was an au-L | thority on those subjects. He threw the meeting into an open forum and had many questions propounded to him.Capt. Newell Williams then showed his movies taken of the Olympic swimming contests in Berlin, and explained at the same time strokes used by the various nations. His talk was spirited and interesting and his' pictures worth seeing. In a pleasing, interesting manner he discussed phases of swimming and showed movies of his own taken at Iowa.
