By GARY KUEHN Sentinel Sports WriterSitka lost two to Wrangell in Wrangell and defeated Hoonahtwice at Home Court this last week.Sitka had a tough time in Wrangell last week losing two and also their third place standing. Wrangell ran Sitka on their own court, the first quarter, outscoring them 23-8. The second quarter was evenly matched with both teams shooting about thesame. Wrangell led 39-23 at thehalf.The third quarter was a defensive quarter with Sitka scoring 10 and Wrangell 14. Wrangell increased their lead to 20, 53-33. Sitka ran well in the fourth quarter, outscoring Wrangell 20-18 but loosing 71-53.The second night Sitka ran Wrangell and out rebounded them but could not score on the offensive boards, and as one of the players stated, “When we went in on the boards we were taking our lives in our hands.” But, when Wrangell shot under the boards there was always a foul called. The quarter ended 14-11.The second quarter was a run and gun quarter with Wrangell getting hot and scoring 37 while Sitka scored 23. The half was 48-37 Wrangell.Wrangell held their lead in the third quarter 68-56, and won the game 93-77.Sitka walked on Hoonah twice77-39 and 82-44. Sitka started running Hoonah and outscored them 18-12. Hoonah lost their best player in the first quarter of action which hurt the team. Sitka scored 22 and held Hoonah to 11 increasing their lead to 17, 40-23.Sitka held Hoonah to 10 while scoring 18 and the third quarter ended 58-33. The second string took over in the fourth quarter and held the Hoonah team to 6 points while scoring 19. The score ended with a Sitka victory 77-39.The second game was like the first with Sitka scoring 29 to Hoonah’s 19. Hoonah gained ground in the second quarter outscoring Sitka 14 to 11 but Sitka led 40 to 28.Sitka took the third quarter 24 to 7 increasing their lead to 29,64-35.
