Gary Coal Diggers Upset Beaver Five To Cop 37-29 TiltGary, W. Va., Feb. 9.—Beaver high school’* mighty five, nailing high wide and handsome after a one-sided thumping they administered Charleston high school last night, visited Gary tonight for a basketball frolic, cocky and confident of taking the locals over the Jumps. But when thecasualties had been counted the score read Beaver 29, Gary 37.The Beavers didn’t play as much basketball tonight as they showed against Charleston, but on the other hand, the Coaldiggers offered a much more stubborn defense to the visiting Bluefielders than they ran up against when playing Charleston Tho Beavers were sadly off form In their goal tossing and didn’t get very many shots close In to the hoops, being forced to Phoot from around the foul circles and near the sidesThe Bljeflelders broke ahead and led 7-6 at the close of the first quarter, hut in a fast second period the Coaldiggers came hack to tie the count at the half, 14-all.In the third quarter the Gary boys completely outshot the Beavers, rocking the mesh for twice as many points and led 26-20 as the quarter ended.
