Irena Bennett scored 28 points and Vickie Freeman added 25 to pace the Vanoss girls to a 66-58 victory over Lexington last night.The Wolves built up an 11-point halftime lead and maintained the lead throughout the second half.The win raises the Vanoss girls record to 204.In the boys game, Vanoss fell behind by six in the first quarter and could never quite overcome the deficit as theylost 71-66.Jim Bennett scored 35 for the Wolves but it wasn’t enough to overcome their excessive fouling. Vanoss had 13 more fouls than Lexington for the game.The Atoka boys used the 23-point effort of Sam Darst to roll past Tishomingo, 81-49, while the Tish girls pulled off a 65-59 upset win over the Atoka girls.Darst and his teammates led by only five points at halftime but a 45-point barrage in the second half lifted the Wampus Cats to the easy win.Dennis Gabbart added 14 points to the Atoka total and Keith Copeland added 12.Lynn Dupree paced Tish's efforts with 14 points.The Tish girls scored 35 points from the charity stripe as Atoka was whistled for 32 fouls.Atoka led 28-23 at halftimebut a 25-13 third quarter put Tish ahead to stay.Pat Stephenson paced the Tish attack with 29 points while Beth Harrison poured through 34 tallies for Atoka.The Stratford girls put away visiting Elmore City on a 46-40 count in a preview of Thursday night’s first-round game of district, but the Stratford boys fell in a narrow 4745 decision.Donna Dew paced the Stratford girls with 24 points.Stratford jumped to a 19-6 first-quarter lead and led by 11 points going into the fourth quarter.Mark Savage hit 16 points for the Stratford boys but the Bulldogs blew a four-pointTwinbillshalftime lead in the third quarter.Mike Savage added 11 points to the Stratford scoring column.The Byng boys fell behind by six points in the first quarter but came back to outscore Coalgate in each of the final three quarters on the way to a 67-58 victory.The game featured ba-The Sulphur Bulldog wrestlers improved their dual record to 15-3 last night with a 28-14 triumph overlanced scoring as both teams had four players in double figures.The win raises Byng’s record to 9-13, while Coalgate dipped under the .500 mark to 9-10.In the girls game, Byng outscored the Wildcats 204 in the second quarter to spark a 6442 victory.The win was the 40th straight for the Pirates and raised their season record to 22-0.
