Annual Auto RacesAt DeLand Feb. 10DeLand American Legion will offer its third annual auto races at Volusia Fair Grounds track, De-Land, on Sunday, February 10, fea turing dirt tracks and speedway champions on an eight event program.The grounds will be open at noon, races will start at 3:00 p. m., and time trials at 1:30 p. m. A nominal admission charge will admit to both main gate and grandstand and there will be parking space for thousands of cars inside the grounds.Featuring the star studded cardwill be Gus Schrader, world’s dirtchampion; Gordon Bracken, Camp Foster road race champion; Glen Myers, Detroit Veterans of Foreign Wars speedway champion; Arch Powell, Reynoldo Rebull, Gian Cuesto, Pay O’Byme, Bill Chesterfield, Speed Callaway, Crash Waller, Tom Jenkins, Cupid Sykes, Buck Mathis, Lawrence Becker, Bob Roberts, Roberti Saulti, Ted Chamberlain and a host of other knights of the roaring road.Schrader, victor at Tampa Fair major races; Powell who defeated Schrader in a match race, and Bracken who won four races at Jacksonville Sunday, are expected to show plenty of hot speed fireworks in DeLand’s start off of a “Febritary of Spaed in Volusia county, which includes the Sir Malcolm Campbell time-trials at Daytona Beach, and the annual motorboat regatta at New Smyrna.Both Sir Campbell and Kay Don, sensational English races, have been invited by the City of DeLand and the local Legion to attend the events. Sir Campbell attended the Legion races here in 1933.
