Recent dispatches bear the information that Ray L. Doan, the Muscatine promoter, will sponsor I a six or eight team baseball league j in connection with his Hot j Springs. Ark., baseball school this \ spnng.tThat means evidently that the ambitious young aspirants to big time baseball jobs will get a lot of practical experience along with a lot of valuable sideline coaching by some of the national games biggest moguls.lOh—*Recent additions to the e%er increasing staff of major league instructors are Kollie Henisley, recently of the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Kcds and now of the St. Louis Browns; Burleigh Grimes, veteran spitballer who was a member of the St. Louis Cardinal pitching staff until his recent release; and Grover “House of David” Alexander, the grizzle*) veteran who has long been a featured moundsman with Doan’s bearded diamond-men.Intermingled with the student baseballers at the Hot Spring plant this year will be several players from the Jersey City and Albany teams of the International league. Their bosses are sending them south to get some seasoning under Doan’s staff of big timers.Promoter Doan has recently included tennis—the big time variety — in his money making achcrhes. He's sponsoring a match between the ace professional. Big Bill Tilden. and his youthful protegee. Ellsworth Vines, at Hot Springs April 11.
