Old Irish Boxer Dead.The death of George Carr, n veteran pugilist, is reported from Dulbin, where he was kicked tolt; death in a nlieet brawl. Carr was about lt;lr) year** old,the son of Irish parents, nnd was born in Birmingham. He was a pugilist of the old school and fought many hard ring tights under London rules. He was the man who passed up the knife with which the ropes weir cut when Jloenan had Sayers in the death grip and was slowly but, surely strangling him in thir memora-blo bare knuckle fight. He wns a hero of the Crimean wai, nnd wore the Victoiia Cross for bravery nnd saving the life of an officer. He luy in the benches before Sebastopol, charged with the Scarlet Horse to cover the remnant of the Light Brigade, was in the hand-to-hand fight in the darkness when the English were surprised by the Russians nt Inkerman, and was commended for bravely at Balaklavn. The hero of these battles and innumerable bare knuckle fights has 11 son. George Can, who is also a fighter. Two years ago the son was the 316-pouund champion of Ireland. Carr senior was u great fiiend and admirer of Peter Maher.
