He stuck out his glove Saturday night and made the right turn.Camacho bloodied both of Vinny Pazienza’s eyes and won a brutal 12-round decision to retain his World Boxing Organization junior welterweight title.Among the judges, the decision was unanimous, but it was very unpopular among the crowd that equally loved Pazienza and loathed the flashy, loud-mouthed Camacho. But Camacho, wearingfringed, leather trunks and Indian-styled boots, ignored the booswere Andy Blaser (119), Lance Kirchner (135), Tony Arpiainen (140), Jim Barlass (171) and Jeff Abb (189) of Parker, plus JimFullerton (152) of Craig. Two champions from a yearand dealt Pazienza a convincing loss.Camacho, who once held the world super-featherweight and lightweight titles, had been criticized as an inactive champion. His last two title defenses were unimpressive. He knew he had better improve or he would lose the lifestyle he has grown to love.Although Pazienza was in perpetual motion,Camacho picked off nearly all of his punches and threw his own with deadly precision. He bloodied Pazienza’s nose and right eye in the third round, and he hit Pazienza with a punishing right hand in the ninth round that opened a gash alongside the other eye.Camacho wins faAssociated Press
