Wednesday Evening, February 4,1970Berries Take TraditionInto Wrestling TourneyThe 1970 Indiana High School wrestling sectional tournaments get underway Thursday evening at 16 sites throughout the.State with a field of 219 schools entered.The Logansport Berries, along with five other Loganland teamswill be competing at Taylor High School near Kokomo jnj a tourney that includes 15 teams and 179 wrestlers;Competing at Taylor besides the Berries are Lewis Cass, Pioneer, Maconaquaft, North Miami and Peru.The weigh-in for the event will be conducted at 4 p.m. with the first round scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The second round is slated for Saturdaybeginning at 9;30 a.m. The afternoon session will be at 2 p.m. with the consolation and final rounds at 6:30 p.m.The Berries are defending champions in the sectional, and: through the 12 years of the' sport in Logansport they have compiled a list of 43 individual champions and five team trophies.Logansport finished fourth in 1965 for its lowest placing, and iaside from a third in 1966 it has either won the tournament or placed second.In order to compete in the event a wrestler must have competed in at least six inter-vk - -v.be eligible for . the State Tourney.The Gary schools did not qualify because of the month long teachers’ strike.The other sectionals will be held at Bloomington, Calumet, Crawsfordsville, Crown Point, Elkhart, Evansville, Franklin, New Castle, New Haven, Pike, South Bend and Warren Central.The regionals will be Feb. 14 and the state finals will beFeb. II.The Berries are going, into the tourney with, a 7-2 record.Logansport goes into the event with two defending champions and a host of possibilities. Ron Howard, 123-pound senior, has a pair of NCC championships, along with sectional and second in the state in the 127-pound class last year.Don Howard, 137-pounder, also has a dual NCC championmarking.
