This is quite an accomplishment for a “C” team in a “B” league. Scoring for Acton was Barry McGurn assisted by Brian Driscoll, Jimmy Kollmer unassisted, Danny Craig assisted by Chuck Huggins and Jimmy Hogan assisted by Brian Driscoll and Jimmy Kollmer. Playing well for Acton was Tommy Leary in goal and Brad Robertson and Dana Johnson.Acton Bantom Cs 3 Bedford 3This would have been a very good game if it hadn’t been for some very poor officiating. The officiating at Tyngsboro has gone from bad to worse and it is hoped that something can be done about it. Scoring for Acton was Kevin Sawyer assisted by Chuck Huggins, Steve Fischetto assisted by Jimmy Hogan and George Kashuba on a Beautiful solo effort, unassisted. In so doing they knocked Lowell out of first place and took over sole possession of the number one spot themselves. Kurt Gerhardt led the scoring parade with the hat trick and an assist. Joe Peters racked up a goal and three assists. Jim McKenna a goal and three assists.. Mike Ring got two goals, Mark Royle, Bob Guerette, Chris Pappas and Francis Dee each got a goal. The opposition featured an outstanding goalie and nothing else. This writer estimates that he made between 70 and 80 saves. Most of them difficult. Both Mike Ring and Francis Dee came up with the hat trick. Tim Golden and KurtGerhardt got two goals and an assist apiece. Peter Johnson got one goal and three assists. The Acton Bantam B’s romped over the outmatched Melrose Chiefs in a game in which Acton clearly outplayed their opponent throughout. The score of 15 to 0 would have soared even higher had it not been for one of the Chiefs’ goalies who flew around in front of his net stopping barrage after barrage of shots - specifically, 39 shots on net for Acton as opposed to 4 for Melrose. The line of Rich Wirtenson, Mickey Bezanson and Mike Costello started off the action by bringing the puck up the ice with beautiful passing, one of which Wirtenson neatly converted into the first goal for Acton with an assist also going to the hustling Joe Lanoe. Within a minute, however, Westford answered with a goal of their own.In the second period, Mickey Bezanson made it 2 to 1 by slipping the puck right through the goalie's pads from the wing position for an unassisted effort. Some clever defensive moves by Jack Evans and good all-around Acton defense turned Westford aside in this period.A nice pass from Bobby Hayner to Richard Wirtenson set up the third goal when Rich s shot rebounded and Mike Sweeney very alertly picked it up and knocked it home to start off the third period. But Westford pressed hard and scored 2 goals within 2 minutes to tie the score. On a real beautiful play at the faceoff, Rich Wirtenson got the draw and passed back to Mike Bryant at the blue line who drilled his slapshot right throush
