THE FATAL OLOV* FIQHT.OPENING OF THE INQUEST.Mr. John Troutbeck opened at St. Clement Dajies Vestry Hall yesterday the inquest concerning the death of Michael Riley, a professional boxer, who died in Charing Cross Hospital on Tuesday morning from the effects of injuries alleged to have been caused in a glove fight with Matthew Precious, of Birmingham, at the National Sporting Club, on Monday night. Mr. Bettinson, manager of the National Sporting Club, and the principals who had appeared at the Police Court on Tuesday were present. The Coroner said that on this occasion he intended only to take evidence of identification, and then issue his certificate authorising the burial of the body. There was a very large amount of evidence to be taken, but he thought he would be able to finish the case at the next sitting. John Boyle, tobacconist, New City-road, Glasgow, formally identified the body as that of Riley, who followed no occupation beyond that of a boxer. The inquest was then adjourned until to-morrow.
