CONNELLY WONIn His Bout Last Night at Shawnee.Scanlon Stood Up 20 Rounds—“Red.,,31 ay Box Here—Other Sporting Notes of the Day.Red Connolly won the boux witk Jack Scanlon at Shawnee last evening; the decision being given by Referee Charles Henry of this city at the end of the twentieth round, and his ruling was unquestionable even to Scanlon's friends and backers. Up 10 the tenth, round honors were even, but after that tune Connolly’s superior •tactics and, skill together with his superb conat-tion, began to tell on his opponent, anti during the eighteenth round, Scanlon, was sent to the floor -twice, taking, almost the full count each time. During the next two rounds Connelly tried hard to put his man away, but Hio cl.nches of Scanlon at close quarters and his getting away to avoid punishment frustrated this. However, at the end of the last round Scanlon was so neaily done up that he could not have lasted over two more rounds, while Red was still fresh „nd strong, without a mark on him to show that he had been in a ring. Connolly has surely-proved himself a game and fast boxer, and under the good care of his manager, Mr. Jack Hayden, and his trainer, Mr. Crora Browne, he will undoubtedly regain his old standing as one of the best men in the eoun -y.The Newark party are loud in their praises of the treatment accorded them at Shawnee, and are under especial obligations to Mr. Sfariver. the editor cf the Valley News.
