Dowell WillVnc01Attend HockeyMerger Parley1£asgtpJwTORONTO, — Merger of the world's two leading amateur hockey associations into an international federation moved nearer as the ; Canadian Amateur Hockey Association authorized its president to attend a merger meeting in Prague next February.The meeting if successful would bring together the Ligue International de Hockey sur Clare, parent body in Europe, and the International Icp Hockey Association which holds away in North America, as the International Ice Hockey Federation.Based on a resolution framed by Dr. \V. C. Hardy of Edmonton, president of the I I.H A., which he formed in 1941, C.A.H.A. President Hanson Dowell of Middleton, N.S., is authorized by the C.A.H.A., to agree to the merger with the L.I.-li G., formed in 1908. provided:t The new body recognized the definition of an amateur as un. de-stood by the C.A.H.A., — an athlete not actively engaged in professional sport.2. That in the judgment of the president progress is being made toward a system of membership and voting in the new organization wmch is satisfactory to thej C.A.H.A.3. That the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States is admitted to membership in theI new organization.If Dowell is unable to come to a decision he is to report back to the annual meeting of the C.A.H.A. next spring.Should the federation be formed, the C.A.H.A, instructed Dowell to forward the names of Dr. Hardy as first vice-president and George Dudley of Midland, Ont., secretary of the C.A.H.A. and l.I.H.A. as assistant secretary.Mr. Dudley said he felt that an\ organization entered by the C. V-H.A. should be predominantly Canadian. He considered that Canada as hockey’s chief incubator should have more to say by way of vot* ling than countries which have taken up hockey as a sideline.
