They have retired, temporarily at least, leaving the field open for new blood.The talking movies sent out acall that Bobby Jones could not ,resist. He abandoned competitivegolf. Bill Tilden and George Lett decided they had participated in enough international ’emus. Fd Roush put a high price on his baseball services and when none accepted the terms, he went into retirement. Grover Cleveland Alexander trooped back to his native Nebraska. Helen Wills Moody returned to her kitchen ,In the ranks of the coaches, three decided it was time for other pursuits. Consequently. Arnold Hor-ween relinquished the football reins at Harvard in favor of his leather business in Chicago. Bill Roper left only pleasant memories at * Princeton. And Steve Farrell turned over to a voungcr man the j job of track and field developmentat Michigan.
