North Penn Football Awards Banquet is HeldThe North Penn Football Awards Banquet was held Tuesday, Dee 11th at the North Dining Hall in Manser cafeteria at Mansfield UniversityThe evening's guest speaker was “Bill Walker”, former Corning East High School Head Coach and presently offensive coordinator at Mansfield UniversityTrophy, letter, and junior high award winners and perfect practice attendance players were recognizedEarning the following trophies were Panther’s Paw award (110% award) to sophomore Tim Atkinson of Morns Run, defensive back and wide receiver who had one catch' reception for four yards, 3 returns for 15 yards and 8 tackles, Most Im proved Player to junior Ricky Dake of Blossburg, defensive end and center who had 5 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, and two sacks, Offensive Plajrer of the Year, senior Mike Ford of Covington, wide receiver and defensive back who had 36 catches for 605 yards and 3 touchdowns, Defensive Player of the Year, senior Scott Miller of Covington, offensive and defensive tackle who had 89 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, and 4 1/2 sacks, and Panthers' Pride Trophy to senior Steve Brion of Blossburg, quarterback and de fensive back who led the twin tiers m all purpose yardage with 2,028, passed for 1,054, rushed for 538, and returned for 436 yards, threw 7 touchdowns,ran for6, was9 for 10 m kicking extra points, had 6 interceptions on defense and 55 tacklesAlso honored were the following players for their All-Star selections Steve Brion, All-Twin Tiers QB DB/ KR All-Northern Tier QB-DB and All Mid Penn 2nd team QB-DB, Mike Ford, All-Twin Tier WR Honorable Mention, All-Northern Tier WR%MIKE FORD, PANTHER wide receiver and defensive back (shown on right) receives his offensive player of the year troph\ from Head Coach Mike DrassAll-Mid Penn WR 2nd team Scott Miller All-Northern Tier OT DT All Mid Penn 1st Team OT-DT junior Jason Bowen of Mansfield All Northern Tier TE honorable men tion, All Mid-Penn 1st team Tjght End and Linebacker and Ricky Dake All Mid Penn 2nd team De fensive End The evening culminated with the announcement of the co-captains for the 1986 season tight end and linebacker Jason Bowen who is a Mansfield High School junior andoffensive guard and defensive tack )e Scott Brion a Libert High School sophomore During the 1985 season Bowen had 31 receptionsfor 431 yards and 4 touchdowns Defensively he had 8H tackles. 6 tackles for a loss and 3 in terceptions Brion was in on 42 tackles had 2 tackles for a loss and half a sack
