In April, Kramnikengaged the services of a top trainer, Valery Krylov, a former coach of the Russian basketballteam.“I did a lot of physical training in Majorca in the weeks before the match - swimming, weight training and volleyball,” Kramnik said. ‘‘Here in London, before the match started, we played some tennis.“It made a big difference to my match stamina. I couldn't imagine I would be so energetic. It baffled many people that I had so muchShelbyenergy.Kramnik’s description was a far cry from his account earlier this year after a disappointing finish in a tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. “Maybe I need more physical preparation to get more energy.
