Hubbard grapplerswin EOWL tourneyThe Eagle wrestling team outscored grapplers from five other schools and walked away the winners of the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League tournament. The tourney, held at the high school December 20, saw an entire day of action as matmen from Hubbard, Liberty, Canfield, Boardman, Warren G. Harding, and Salem gathered for competition. The points were added together from the elimination matches that started at noon, and Hubbard was in second place, when the finals started at 7 p.m. With 10 wrestlers in the finals, the grapplers crowned four champions, including Rich Osberg, 98 pound titlist. The others were: Joe Magee at 132, Gene Bucci at 155, and Kent Kelley at 175.Winning runnerup honors were two: Dan Gleydura at 105 and Roy Ryser at 167. The deciding points of the match were won by Dave Higham who finished third. Fourth place finishers were: Wayne Yarger, 112, Pat Maurer, 138 and Ed Sonnenlitter at 119. Coach Dick Wince is very proud of his wrestlers, and said: “The effort was a joint one, as we needed total points to win.
