Philip F. SmithPhilip F. Smith, 58, of352 North St , McSherrystown, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, at his home.He was the husband of Janet E. Chronister Smith.Bom Sept, 8, 1935, in MeSher-rystown, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary C. Miller Smith.Mr. Smith was a member of the Annunciation Church of McSher-rysfcown, and was the president and co-owner of EX Smith and Sons Cigar Manufacturing in McSher-rystown. He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association, the McSherrystown Moose, the McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, the McSherrystown Fish and Game, the New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, the Bide-A-Wee Hunting Camp and the National Riile Association. He was an alumni of King’s College.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Craig P. Smith of New Oxford; three daughters, Carolyn A. Jacoby of Abbottstown, Stephanie M. Smith of Hanover and Mary Catherine Limon of Beltsvil-le, Md,; two grandchildren; and two asters, Constance Smith of York and Sylvia A. Stock of MeShenysfcown.Funeral services will beheld Friday, -meeting at the Hicks Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, at 8:30 am. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Annunciation Church at 9 a.m., with his pastor, the Rev. Paul ML Mil! er, officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call Thursday evening, with prayers to be recited at 8 p.m.Memorial contributions may be sent to the Annunciation Church Memorial Fund, 26 N. Third St., McSherrystown, or the American Cancer Society.Joseph Francis HowardJoseph Francis Howard, 65, of X8602 Orchard Hills Parkway, Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, Dec. 17, at the Williamsburg Community Hospital in Williamsburg, Va.Mr--- Howard'was thehusband of Lenora Fieiy Howard-Born in York, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ella Faulker Howard.He previously lived in Gettysburg, and attended St. Francis School and Gettysburg College. He was employed with the ULS. government for 35 years, retiring in' 1983 from Dis Com, and formerly working at Letterkanny Army Depot and Fort Ritchie.Mr. Howard was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, BPO Elks Lodge 378, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 212, Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Travelers Protective Association, AARP and the Sons of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.He coached Little League and the Junior Basketball League. He was an official for high school basketball and high school football.He is survived by two sons, John M. Howard of Apopka, Fla., and Joseph J. Howard of Clear Spring, Fla.; one sister, Pauline Williams ofGettysburg; and two grandsons.Interment was. in Rest Haven Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 92 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to the charity of one’s choice.
