Moffat Elton became captain of Chicago in 1918, being the third leader of the varsity team to come from Oak Park in four years. In the next three years Oak Parkmissed the championship by inches each season. Probably the greatest player produced in this period was Pete Steger, who was one of the most brilliant back-field men in local football history. Pete still keeps in trim by playing professional football in season. The following fpur years were the most successful of Coach Thistle-I HERB STEGERI thwaite’s period at Oak Park, ending in I four more championships. The championship ia 1917 started the ball rolling. I The season of 1918-1919 ended in Cook J County titles, Oak Park playing Englewood both times for the title, and in 1920, after becoming the Suburban champs, a post season game with Steele High of Dayton, Ohio, added more prestige and fame when the home men put I over a 19 to 6 victory. In the 1918-1919 seasons Oak Park| * ascored a total of 412 points to opponents’ 17. Uteritz, Herb “Tige” Steger* Hal Lewis and Jim Pyatt are perhaps the most renowned. Lewis captained this year’s Maroon team, while reliable Jim Pyatt is captain-elect.
