Nocona High School HasPromising Basketball Squadi ‘Went To Semi-FinalsiRinggold TournamentWith more than 25 men reporting for basketball. Coach Stone has a very promising green basketball squad. Very few of the candidates for the team have had previous ex-peiience, but are fast developing into a smoothly working combination that promises to go far in the county race this year by tournament time in February.Alvord and Saint Jo are two of I the victims that have fallen before the coming Indians. The locals defeated Alvord and received a forfeit last week-end from Bonita togo into the finals in the Ringgold Invitation basketball tournament. Saint Jo defeated Nocona by a close score hi the semi-finals/The Indians gained the desired revenge on the local court last Tuesday night when they defeated Saint Joby the score of 21 to 14 in the first team affray and 14 to 7 with the next down the line.Interesting Schedule.The Indians will undergo some real pleasure before the tournament. Games have been arranged with some of the best high school teams in this section and they will be of real value in developing the new squad. Gainesville, Wichita Falls, Olney, Jacksboro, Bowie, Ryan, Crowell, Henrietta. Petrolia, Buffalo Springs, and many others will appear on the interesting schedule for the local boys.Games Dec. 29-30.Games are being arranged for the Nocona boys during the holidays. At least two games will beboys wiil jump right into the beginning of the tough schedule of practice tilts.Invitation Tournament Jan. 26-27.Besides all of the strong teams on the Indians’ schedule, they will invite 16 of the leading teams of this section, including 10 or 12 counties, to participate in a tournament on the local court the weekend of January 26 and 27. This is an annual affair, being the second year of the event, and 1934 promises to exceed the hard fought and interesting one of last year, with stronger teams entering. More than 10 teams have already entered at this early date.Ii(irlrst—»Earnest WorkersMeet with Mrs. CareyIt has been the custom for several years for Mrs. W. O. Reynolds to entertain her Bible class with a party at Christmas time. But because of illness in her family Mrs. Mattie Carey entertained the class Monday, December 17.The home was beautifully decorated, including a Christmas tree.An interesting program of Christmas songs and games was enjoyed. Each member brought toys, which were packed and sent to Fowler Orphan’s Home at Dallas.The ladies surprised Mrs. Cogswell by presenting to her a beautiful friendship quilt they had just finished, which she says the family will cherish through all the future.
