Princeton Daily Clarion, Tuesday, December 20,1977While the majority of Gibson county football fans will be looking forward to such holiday treats as the Rose, Orange, and Cotton Bowls, one area fan will have his eyes entrenched upon the outcome of the Fiesta Bowl on Christmas day between Arizona State and Penn. State.David Dunning of Francisco will be watching the bowl pitting the 9-24) record of Arizona State against the 10-1-0 mark of Penn. State not because he has been a fan of either school for a long time, but because he has a personal reason for keeping track of the Devils of Frankt*NORRIS WILLIAMSKush.Arizona State right offensive guard Norris Williams is the grandson of the Gibson county resident, and no matter what the obstacle Dunning keeps up with the sophomore’s team.Williams was a highly recruited guard, he was sought by Notre Dame as well, out of Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, California. The 6-3, 235-pound sophomore has started in both of his two seasons at Arizona State, with seven games last year being spent at the center position. However, Williams has moved to guard this season, and has fit in well at the new post, while wearing number 53 on theline.Injuries have played a big part in Williams receiving a chance to crack the starting 11 in both of his seasons at the school, but once Williams found a home he stayed put.The telephone company probably appreciates the relationship as well, since Dunning calls his grandson once a week at the school to make sure things are going smoothly,Williams seemingly has an ability to forsee the future, and Dunning is hoping the predictions will continue to hold their course. In a telephone conversation, Williams told his grandfather that he would play in two bowls. One would be the Fiesta, the one in which he will be playing this coming Christmas, and the other would be the Rose, when Arizona State moves into the Pacific Eight Conference beginning next season.Dunning noted that he hoped to see his grandson in action next season, and that he would definitely be watching the Fiesta game on Christmas. Dunning called the game, “something very special. ’ ’But Williams’ ties to Gibson county doesn’t end with his grandfather. Norris has three great aunts, Mrs. Robert Wright, Elsie Kirk, and Virginia Ott, all of Princeton, and a great uncle, Carl Dunning, who is a teacher at Francisco. He also has several cousins living in the Gibson county area.Mr. and Mrs. Terry Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Duncan of Oakland City are also aunts and uncles of the western football player.Dunning doesn’t get to see his grandson very often, but one thing is for sure. The relationship between the two is a thing of spiritual closeness, no matter how many physical miles may separate them.tJimFort B week i ball c threec The]take h prize flt;Jimceton, ce, Pr route 1 second but El
