Russian Sextet Stops U.S. Nationals AgainMinneapoli»-St. Paul (AP— Victor Yakushcve scored the clinching goal late in the third period as the Russian Nationals downed the I’.S. National hockey team 3-2 Tuesday night.Yakusheve's goal at 16:05 of the final period came with the U.S. a man short due to a penalty, and gave the Russians a 3-1 lead. Doug Volmar closed the gap to 3-2 w hen he slammed home a shot from the right side 55 seconds later.But the Americans were unable to muster anothei serious threat ami lost their third straight game to the Russians this fall.John Cunniff scored from 15 feet out on the left side at 3:07 of the first period to give the Americans an early lead. About six minutes later Anatoly Flr-sov banged in a rebound to tie the game.Alexie Makarov took a pass from Veniamis Alexandrov and scored he ad on from eight feet with only 34 seconds left in the middle period to give the Russians their first lead.Hoth goalies were outstanding.Victor Konovalenko kicked out 30 shots for the Russians,defending Olympic and world amateur champions. Patt Rupp made 23 saves for the U.S.A crowd of 8,511 at Metropolitan Sports 'Center gave the teams a standing ovation at the end of the game.The Russians head west for their next game Friday against Spokane of the Western International Hockey League. The U.S. team plays Thursday « Columbus of the International Hockey League.Roth teams are in action Dec. 28-31 at the Walter Brown Tournament at Colorado Springs, Colo.
