Jerry Burand Wins Letter at DePauwGREENCASTLE. Ind. — Jerry Burand, DePauw University football player from Wilmington, has been awarded a major letter for the 1954 season, according to Athletic Directoi James C. Loveless.Burand is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto E. Burand, 516 Douglas street, and a graduate of Wilmington high school.A total of 20 major awards and 23 numerals were presented this year to DePauw gridders. Only four of the letter-winners are seniors.Football has been a major intercollegiate sport at DePauw since 1889; and since that date Tiger Us have won 256 and lost 218.Next year’s football schedule, the first nine-game card for DePauw in 33 years, includes two new opponents—Butler and Beloit.
