GOLF COURSE” IS PROPER NOT LINKS, SAYS EXPERTThomas Bendelow, Scotch Construe tionist of Golf Courses, Lectures9to University Landscape Men.Of especial interest to landscape gardeners was the second lecture on golf course construction yesterday by Mr. Tho^af' Bendelow.Starting with a consideration, in general, of golf course extent and location, Mr. Bendelow gave some valuable figures as to the proper length of holes and the disposition of the various lengths of holes on the course.A point aside from the subject of the lecture, was the fact that theterm, “golf links” is a misnomer. In Scotland, where golf originated, the game is played along the banks of streams and rivers, on the low, level area known to the people there as “the links.” Not only golf but baseball, cricket, football and other sports j 8 are played here, too. Therefore, the 1 correct term is “golf course”; not “golf links ” he said.Tomorrow Mr. Bendelow will conclude his series of lectures with an address on “The Planting and Landscape Gardening of Golf Courses,” which will deal with the planting of shrubs and trees on the ’ course as well as placing the club-house and locating the entrance drive.
