A ZANESVILLE CROWDComing: Thursday-Furey and Bain are Matched for January.Mr. ‘'Bun’’ Farrell, of Zanesville, the manager of Charles Swede, the heavyweight who will meet Buck Johnson hereon next Thursday night, before the Newark Athletic Club, was in the city last evening, and notified the manager of the club that he had secured a 75 cent rate from Zanesville to Newark over the B. 0. for Thursday evening. He had disposed of 50 tickets to secure that concession from the company, and as the crowd is desirous of securing a lower rate than that, the agent has promised Mr. Farrell a 50 cent fare if 100 people buy tickets. This, Mr. Farrell says, is a. foregone conclusion, as he has had requests for more than 60 tickets besides the 50 already sold. In conversation about Swede, Mr. Farrell mentioned the fact that Swede had within the last two years made a 10 round draw with Nick Burleigh, and had knocked out Arthur Upton. the former champion of the Southwestern states in four rounds. Upton, it will he remembered, was defeated at New Orleans several years ago by Robert Fitzsimmons. in 12 rounds, and must therefore have been a good man for Swede to place to his credit in so short a time. The indications are that Johnson will have his hands full to beat Swede, and a rare contest is assured. The Newark Athletic club this morning matched Barney Fuiey of Cincinnati, and Jack Bain, of New York, for a 20 rond contest to take place during the first week of January. The men are to weigh in at 133 pounds at the ringside, and forfeit money will be up to guarantee weight.
