g||;JOHN MEISERTop KHS ScorerFavoredTest-■mmSE-- S'V*|BbSYuma and Kofa high schools will receive their toughest tests of the young prep basketball season tonight when the two cross-town rivals clash in a 7p.m. game at Yuma High.For the host Y’umans, it will be an attempt to snap a two game iosing streak that set in after the Criminals opened theseason with a 49-36 win over Holtville.For the Kofans. the win is needed to keep the 1968-69 record unblemished.The Kings have rolled off a pair of wins in as many games, including a 66-30 trouncing of the same Holtville quintet.By virtue of a 2-0 recordas compared to Yuma’s 1-2 record the Kings have to be given the role of the favorite.However, the taller Criminals have yet to really play up to potential this season, and if all goes according to history, the Crims will come up with a near peak performance tonight.To the surprise of no one. the leading point-producer for coach Bob McLendon’s cagers is senior letterman Charlie Reed.Reed, a 5-10 outside for ward, has popped the nets for 43 points —- an average of 14.3.His best nisht this season ealso the best single effort forthe team —* 16 points.Guard Charlie Martinez is the onlv lt;!( ■!;: av lt;raging indouble figures. He owns an 11.3 average after the first threegames.For the Kings*, who didn’t have a scorer end the season with a double figure average last year, three starters are in the twin digit ranks, with a fourth just short.Veteran guard John Meiser is the team’s leading scorer with an even 20.0 average, while forward Vie Ellis owns a 15.0 mark and forward DannySmith owns an 11.0 mark.Meiser hit for 23 points inKofan’s last cutting, giving him the biggest single-game point total for any Kofa player overthe last two years. **Jeff Deyo. Meiser’s veteranhackeourt teammate, has a 9.5ppg average. *As a team, the Crims are averaging 48.0 per game, ascompared to the opponents 56.0mark.T h e Kofa crew, under tiedirection of coach Jim Amlck, owns a 67.9 scoring average, while limiting the opposition to 43.5 in two games.Giving the Criminals heighthadvantage tonight will be 6-5 Wayne Trammel and 6-5 Tom Ramsey.Kllis, 6-2, and Doryl McCain, 6-2, are the tallest of the Kofastarters. 5um'V
