Enos Slaughter Inks His 1953 Contract. ST. LOUIS, Dec. 17—UP—Enos Slaughter. 36-year-old grandpa of 'the St. Louis Cardinals, -signed up ■•Tuesday 'for his 13th season with .the National League club. .Cardinals owner Fred Saigh also announced the signing of five promising rookies for next year.The “old warhorse outfielder batted .300 last season, the eighth time he has reached the .300 circle. Slaughter broke into the major leagues with the Cardinals in 1938. and played in nine All-Star games.Rookies signed by _ Saigh are' pitcher Jack Faszholz, holder of a 15-8 record last year with Rochester of the International League; pitcher-Dennis Reeder. 20-game winner last year with Columbus, Ga., of the South Atlantic League: first baseman Jim Beavers, a .363 hitter with Hazelhursf-Raxley of the Georgia: State League; outfielder Tom Bur-, gess, .328 hitter with Columhus, ' Ga., and shortstop Shcrwin Dixon : .249 hitter at Omaha, Neb., of the : Western League.
