Woman Bowls 470 Series Despite Visual Handica]Mrs. James A. (Jewel) Downs of 7io Avenue C, recently astounded bowlers of Holiday Bowling Lanes by bowling six consecutive strikes for a total of 213, This is excellent bowling for anyone, but for Mrs, Downs it ! * * almost unbelieveable, as the has a severe visual handicap and cannot see the pins, She lines up behind the foul line and releases the ball in the center of the lane. She bowls every Tuesday in the Tri-City league, on a team sponsored by Groves Auto Supply, She has a 120 average - the 213 game is 93 pins over her average. She bowled a 470 series that same day, and says now her greatest desire is to break “500“ in a single series. A pin was presented Mrs. Downs for breaking “200“, and another will be presented when a 300 series is bowled, iter previous high for a single game was 187.^ Mrs. Downs is a 12 year resident of Port Neches, is married and has one daughter, Millie Rose, a 5th grade # student at oo lorest Elementary. She suffered a brain tumor six years ago, causing eye damage and twice underwent surgery.
