The victory kept the Chainmen in the ranks of the undefeated and strengthened the club's grip on first place.In the other games the Shoe Company turned back WCHN 60-j3 and Winans measured the Pen-nysavers 41-33. The victories ooosted the Shoemen and Winans .nto a tic for second. Both clubs jwn 2-1 records. WCHN and the Pennysavers are deadlocked for fourth with 1-2 slates and Ackley Supply is in the dungeon spot with a winless record.Ackley Supply, paced by Mike j Byrne, Gary Carpenter and John Curnalia, zipped ahead of the league leaders in the first half of their tussle and the seasons first big upset seemed in the offing but Malady, who missed the first half oecause of work, put in an appearance and the situation changed as the tall redhead bombarded ..he net for 22 points to sweep his mates to victory. Pat “Red” Doyle matched his effort but in a route-ong performance and Captain John Stewart accounted for 14. Byrne’s 22 topped the losers. Curnalia tanked 18 and Carpenter 14. The game was highlighted by keen defensive play and the strong board play of frank Benenati of the winners and Don McGraw and Nick Sylstra of the losers. Ray Figary, a shooting whiz, poured in 17 and Benenati connected for 13 to lead Winans. McGraw's 16 paced the Pen-nvpavers. The Pennysavers led the quarter but fell behind in the second stanza and couldn’t catchup again although they had Winans’ lead in the danger zone ■ many times.s The Shoe Company grabbed an s early lead from WCHN and hung :'1 on grimly in the last quarter as 1 the radio gang staged a rousing rally. Dennis Doyle flipped in 27 counters for the Shoe Company, the top scoring performance of the night.. Bi N Morrell iand Bjrry Simmons contributed a dozen each. Dave Petley bucketed 17 for the losers and Fletcher Crawford and Larry Schultes added 14 apiece.First and second quarter blasts of 18-10 and 16-10 staked the Shoemen to a lead that proved a comfortable cushion for WCHN’s? 125-13 last period blitz.
