Girls Take Third Plac8NIXON— The Nixon girls’ basketball team wound up in third place at the Nor-dheim tournament held Thursday, Friday, andSaturday, December 8,9, and 10 in that city.Nixon played Smiley in the first round of play, winning 34-24, with Anita Allen scoring 18 points, Yolando Cisneros eight, and Sherrie McCann four points.Nixon was beaten by Skidmore by a score of 52-39 in Friday’s game, with Allen coming in top scorer, with 18 points. McCann scored 11 and Cisneros 10.Nixon defeated Runge51-45 in the contest for third place, with Allen scoring 30 points, McCann 12 and Cisneros nine. Anita Allen was named to the alltournament team.In a game played on Tuesday December 6, Nixon fell to Waelder by a score of 50-48, bringing their recordto date to 12 wins and two losses.The girls' team, coached by Mrs. Carol Hammann will open district play on Tuesday, December 13, hosting Lackland in the Nixon gym. The team is the defending District 29-A district champion.
