Hockey head blastedOTP AW A (CP) — Another voice has been added to the furious debate between Hockey Canada and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association over international negotiation rights that has threatened next year’s Canada Cup.Former Hockey Canada head Doug Fisher Wednesday blasted CAHA president Gordon Renwick for creating the distrust and lack of co-operation between the groups over the last 18 months.“Where occasionally before one could count on some cooperation and trust in the relationship, that has disappeared since Renwick became CAHA president (in May, 1977).“Alan Eagleson, Hockey Canada negotiator, has threatened to cancel the 1979 Canada Cup, unless the two sides can come to terms. Also. Canadian involvement in other events, including the 1981 and 1982 world championships and the 1980 Olympics, are in jeopardy, Eagleson has said. The CAHA is a member of Hockey Canada, along with the National Hockey League, the World Hockey Association and other government and sports groups, including the NHL Players’ Association, of which Eagleson is executive-director.The CAHA remains the Canadian representative in the International Ice Hockey Federation, and any international hockey events involving Canada must be sanctioned by it.SAYS WORD NOTKEPTFisher, who resigned in August after six years as chairman of the board, blamed Renwick for reneging on several agreements with Hockey Canada, including a recent June 27 pact that seemed to settle the dispute. It gave Hockey Canada exclusive negotiating rights for any games involving professional players, with the CAHA responsible for all amateur involvements overseas.Renwick has argued that the agreement was tentative and was rejected by the CAHA board in October. He said Tuesday the CAHA will honor that agreement if it retained veto rights over exhibition games involving professionals. The CAHA wanted to keep control over these games because the World Hockey Association has repeatedly signed underage juniors without reimbursing the owners for development fees.
