Carver BeginsDistrict PlayA 12-game basketball schedule for Carver High School begins tonight in Bastrop, Coach Alexander Williams announced today. Game time for the girls is 8 p.m. and the boys’ game follows in each case.The rest of the schedule includes December 15, Blind, Deaf.and Orphan of Austin, there; December18, Gonzales there; December 20, Bartlett here; January 3, Gonzales here; January 10, Bartlett there; January 12, Smithville there;:Jan-, uary 17, Bastrop here; January 18, Kcaling of Austin there; January19, Elgin there; January 24, Smith-ville here; J-anuary 27, Elgin here.District, games are against Bastrop, Bartlett, Smithville, and Elgin, but in the eastern half of'the district Columbus, Gidding, La-Grange, and SpmerviHe have teams!;-Winners of the two halves will play for ’She district title about February 1.■ Coach Williams has 3, starting line up with Gettrell Carter and Matthew Carter ail forwards; Robert ■Cyphers at center, -and Rogers r-;Brite, Beverly Carter at guards. xCyphers, -the center, is the shortest ;of the group at 5-9.Coaching the girls team is M. L.. Marshall, who lists .a starting lineup /of Barbara Eustace, Lenora Eck-rford, and Estella Franks at -guards, .-and' Allie Rose Hill, Gloria Ann '■Thompson and Sharon Owens at the .forward position. Eustace, Hill and •Thompson are the ietiermen on the squad of 10.Both the-girls and troys lost their first-two outings. The boys dost to iKealing December 6, and dropped a 22-25 decision to Cuero in the: first/round of -the Gonzales tournament -December 9. The girls lost to the Canteeners of Austin an their first game and dropped ■a game to Gonzales in flhe Gonzales tournament.
