The Blue Devils have been coming very close, but there’s always been a point or two separating them from the winner's circle.“Stephenson will be tough,” said Sault High coach Donn Westman. They’ve got three good scorers back from last year and have won two of their first three games.”The Saint Ignace Saints travel to Cheboygan to take on the Chiefs in a big Michigan-Huron Shores match. The Saints have lost only one game so far, to Grayling, while the Chiefs are undefeated in three games.The DeTour Red Raiders entertain Pickford in one of two EUP Conference matches Friday night. The teams have identical conference marks of l-l, while the Panthers are 2-3 and the Red Raiders 3-2 overall.Both teams' conference losses came from Cheboygan Catholic, who is currently at the top of the standings and undefeated in three games.The Cheboygan team will try to protect its record Friday night when it travels to Brimlev for the only other EUP Conference game of the weekend. It’s apt to be a big one, however. The Bays are 2-1 in league play and are in second place, behind the Eagles.The Rudyard Bulldogs play their second Great Lakes Conference match Friday night when they entertain the Munising Mustangs. The Bulldogs lost their only GLC contest so far this season against Manistique iast Friday.Munising has lost only one game in five they've played so far this year, to Ishpeming.The Bulldogs play again Saturday night against the Bays in Brimley. Both teams are apt to be a bit tired after their big games Friday night, but it should be a good match.The Newberry Indians travel to Manistique Friday night to seek their third win in five games. If they’re successful. the Indians will be the first team from the Eastern U.P. to defeat the Emeralds.
