Mt. Vernon led 34-31 at the horn.Centralia remained close during the fourth period and took the lead for the first time late in the quarter. Ramon Gardner tallied two driving layups, his lonefield goals of the game as Centralia went ahead.Centralia, holding a one-point lead, missed two chances to salt the victory away but free throws were missed. Mt. Burge had 13 for the losersRaccoon led 28-7 at halftime and was never threatened.am im ■ mmark to 4-0 and the loss was Carlyle’s second tn league action.OKAWVILLE — The Okaw-1viile Rockets took a long time Friday — Three overtimes to be exact — to beat the Carlyle Indians 54-49 with the Egyptian—II-lini Conference title at stake.The defending champion Rockets boosted their conferenceBob Berkemeier. 6-foot junior, gave the Rockets the boost theyneeded in the second half after trailing 1-24 at the intermission. Berkemeier scored 17 points, all in the second half and overtimes to lead the rally.Okawvilie could have ended things after the first overtime w-hen Tom Dahncke missed a free throw after the official time had ended. It left the game tied but Dahncke atoned for the mis-cue later with two charity tosses in the third overtime.The Indians raced to a lead in the early going with big Ron Rol-fingsmeyer leading the attack. The red-hot Indians led 15-12 at the horn despite a late rally byOkawvilie.Rolfingsmeyer had six points in the period, including an 18-foot set shot, and Rod Wrone chipped in five. Dahncke, connecting from the side, had six for the Rockets.Carlyle continued its fine shooting the second quarter pulling ahead 31-24 at intermission. A1 Crocker and Rolfingsmeyer tallied six each while Cliff Kuhn and Don Weeke scored all Okaw-ville points with eight and four.And then Berkemeier took over controlling the boards and scoring nine points in the third period. The indians’ shooting cooled off and Okawvilie roared back to tie the game at 38-38.The clubs exchanged baskets through most of the fourth period and in the closing seconds set shots by Weeke of Okawvilie and Jim Kleine of Carlyle sent the game into the first overtime.Okawvilie controlled the ball through most of the three overtimes waiting for the good shot near the end of the periods. Only once did Carlyle get the opportunity at the end of an overtime and in the second quarter a missed free throw by the Indians kept them from a chance to win.Rolfingsmeyer fouled out in the second overtime which hurt the Indians. He scored 18 in the game and Wrone 12.
