here tonightKansas Wesleyan gets a chance to take oyer undisputed possession of first place in the Kansas conference basketball race when it takes on the Tabor Blue Jays at 7:30 pm Wednesday in the Sacred Heart gymnasium.The Coyotes, who will be closing out their pre-holiday schedule, are shooting for their 3rd straight KCAC victory .Wesleyan gets the crack at the top after Sterling handed the Bethany Swedes their first KCAC loss, 92-1, Tuesday night.It's been 4 years since the Coyotes have been in title contention this late in the season — and the season is only a week old as far as conference play is concerned, Wesleyan, with new skipper Randy St, Clair at the helm, has done an about-face and there is a hint that better days may be returning,Overall Kansas Wesleyan is 3-3 for the campaign. Tabor moves in with a 1-1 KCAC mark and a 3-3 overall record.Coach St. Clair said he’ll probably start Roger Bartley, 5-7; Tracy Rietzke, 6-1; Charlie Green,.6-2; Kirk Foster, 6-3, and Sheldon Woolery, 6-2,Tabor, coached by Norm Holmskog, has 4 starters among 7 lettermen returning this K year.SheldonWooleryHe’s expected to start Don Brubacher, 5-10 senior; Roger Penner, 6-3 senior; Allen Regier, 6-5 senior; Jim Harms, 5-11 junior, and either Lynn Piett, 6-3, or non-letterman David Elsberg, 6-6, both juniors. Other lettermen are Duane Penner, 6-6 junior, and Bob Busehman, 6-3 senior.Another player expected to see considerable action is 6-B freshman Rod Duerksen.Coach Holmskog isn’t sure just how good his team is. “We will definitely be more competitive than last year {the Blue Jays were 6-10 in the KCAC and 7-13 overall), but we will be in the dark horse category,”. There will be a junior varsity game at 5:30 pm.In other KCAC action Wednesday, Friends 1-1 plays at Bethel 0-2; McPherson 1-0 is at St. Mary of the Plains 0*1.
