When they didn’t finish first, the Spartans placed second.Of the four events Memorial did not win, West won three of them and Madison East, which placed seventh in the team standings, won the other.Neither Craig nor Parker had a second-place finish, but the Cougars did have six third-place showings and one fourth. Parker had two fourths and five fifths. The key relay for the Cougars, according to Loizzo, was the 200-yard medley.“I think the third that probably bumped us up the most was in the 200 medley relay because we were seeded behind both Beloit and Parker,” Loizzo said. ‘‘And our kids sucked it up and ended up with a third-place finish.”The members of that relay— Troy Hagen, David Latka, SteveUT aap ) ir nnW Ta/4/4 OnttAPMeister, Hayes, David Schwantes and Briney, which also took third; and the 100-yard freestyle relay team of Alex Holz, Charlie Griffiths, Andy Parr and Ratzlaff, which placed fifth.Mylin’s displeasure was caused by his team’s inability to have the four members of a relay team all have good performances. The only event Mylin thought all the members did well in was the fourth-place 400-yard backstroke relay, with Duane Braskamp, Kevin Waddell, Dan Turner and Chad Hendrickson.‘‘That was the one event where all four of the individuals actually did a really nice job,” Mylin said. “That was a genuine good effort by all four individuals. That was definitely the bright spot of the day. We were real happy with that one.”The Vikings’ other fourth-place finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay.Craig 2nd, Parker 3rd in gymnastics meetIt was a good day for the two Janesville high school gymnastics teams Saturday at the Janesville Craig Invitational, with Craig sophomore Amanda St. Clair leading the way by winning the all-around competition. Both Janesville coaches had hoped to finish in the top three and both did.
