The Lisbon Central School Basketball quintet won their opening 1960-61 St. Lawrence Valley League game Friday ight when they stopped a stub born Hammond quintet, 47-44 at Hammond. A big second period spelled victory for the Ken Overslaugh reached quintet. Lisbon opened the game scoring nine points while yielding 12 points to Coach Tom McCarthy’s court men. The winners came back strong in the second period, net ting 7 counters while giving up only six points in the second eight minutes. Hammond out scored the winners, 14-10 and 12-11 in the last two periods. Lisbon, along with Coach Gerald Whalen’s Madrid Wad dington quintet, were early picks to be the number one and two in the Valley League this season. Madrid Waddington has been the top team over the last two or three seasons. Craig and Berg led the Lisbon attack with fourteen points apiece. Dick Felt led Hammond with 22 points. Lisbon JVs Win The Lisbon Junior Varsity also won their half of the twin bsl, turning back the McCarthy quintet, 52-260. White, Perkins and Robinson led the Junior Lisbonites with 18, 15 and 14 points respectively. Bob Hollis ter had eight points for the los ers.
