Chink Downey IsScoring Hero OiSensational GameBT PATEL MOORE Sun Sports EditorState Home Laddies football club Friday night staged one of its famous finishes to overhaul a 12 point lead that the Masonic Home grid-sters had piled up and won Region 5, class B, University of Texas Interscholastic league, 13-12, in TCU Stadium in Fort Worth. All of the Laddies points came in the fourth period, with the winning margin being chalked up with less than two minutes remaining. It was a heart-breakig loss for the “Mighty Mites who had enjoyed the advantages for most of the game, but it would have been a worse fate for the Laddies who had been stopped no less than four times by fumbles when their sterling ground game apparently was hitting on all cylinders.Chink Downey, fullback for the victors, closed his high school career In a blaze of glory when he scored all 13 points of his club, but it would be unfair to give him the lion’s share of credit—for his mates—all of 'em—played their hearts out and gave their all.Gordon QuarterbackTommy Gordon quarterbacked a great game—in fact one of his best. Roger Perona was a continual threat despite several fumbles when hit by the powerful Mason forwards, as was Floyd Foster, the fast-stepping freshman who is destined to be one of the greatest seat-backs in Laddie history. Then G. Canady, small sub back, and others contributed their best efforts.State Home Line Now we come to the deciding factor—that State Home line. Singing the praises of any one Laddie might be unfair to the others, but the defensive and offensive brilliance of W. A, Cannon at end was one of the brightest jewels in the star-studded contest. Not once did he fail to come up to the highest expectations and performance and played a considerable portion of the contest in the Masons baclcfield. J, T. Shipley, Miller, Darnell and E, Bryant, along with Macca Lawrence and Jenkins were integral cogs in the machine that piled up the Masonic attack most of the time, and ripped holes in the heavier forward wall of the Fort WorthSPORT1By PAUL MOOREl-lState Home was hysterical withjoy in Frog Stadium, Fort Worth, last night when Chink Downeycrashed over the Masonic line for the extra point that gave the local crew the Region 5 championship in Class B, University of Texas Interscholastic league, 13-12, after a sensational last quarter rally...
