TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 196.1Expects Improvement In KnighIsConner Introduces NewWeilsburg Team FridayHoward Conner, veteran Weilsburg High basketball coach, began preparing early for the 1963-64 campaign and expects his Orange Knights to show marked improvement over their 1962-63 efforts.Conner’s eye - to - the -future preparations consisted of cutting all seniors from the squad with the exception of Chuck Smith early last season. It looked like a lean year for the Orange and Conner arrived at the conclusion that the t i m e had arrived to begin looking forward to a new season.With only the high - scoring Smith missing from the squad, Conner has eight letter winners, including two sophomores, around which to build his latest team. He will introduce his Orange at Toronto Friday night.Conner reports that the Knights are behind in their training, a condition that may show an adverse effect on the Orange in the early stages of the campaign.Thp vpfpran Wpllchnra roach6-3 sophomore and Larry Lauf-fer, 5-11 sophomore.Gale Hildreth, 6-4 junior; Bob Griffith, 6-1 senior and Chuck Kull, 5-8 junior, complete the squad.“I’m certain we’re going to improve over last year because of our experience”, Conner said. “We have better size than we have had in years, the boys are pretty fair shooters and we are not bad on speed.”Conner will attempt to get his three big men — Ellison, Clemons and Hildreth — in the lineup. Shaffer and Lowe will probably round out the starters. Ellison No. 1 Man At the moment, Ellison appears to be the No. 1 man. He is rated as a good marksman and is particularly effective on the boards.Mirasola is rated the toughest competitor and is making a determined bid for a starting job. He was seeing action regularly at the end of the 1962-63 season.Lauffer also broke into regular action in the late stagestion. The Orangemen moved up to the triple “A” ranks the following year as the result of increased enrollment.Home Debut Dec. 18The Orangemen, who will make their home debut against Bethany Dec. 18, have four games scheduled before the turn of the year.I Conner has been coaching at Weilsburg since 1956 after a tenure at Bethany High.
