Refs, CoachesTeach, LearnMELVILLE, Sask.. (Special) — “Marked Success was the consensus among officials, instructors, referees and coaches in attendance at the Saha-sponsored coaches’ and referees* school held in Melville Saturday and Sunday.The scchool, the seventh to be held in the province this fall, was arranged by the SAHA under vice-president Gordon Juckes of Melville with the co-operation of the Saskatchewan Recreation Movement.Instructors at the school were? Murray Armstrong, coach of Regina Pats. Wally Stinson of the SRM and Al Picard, all well-known hockey figures. There were 57 interested parties who registered and attended the school, representing 21 different centres in the Melville district. Towns sending representatives included Togo. Theodore, Springside. Yorkton, Jedburgh, Col-mer, Wiliowbrook, Fenwood. Kil-lalv, Grenfell, Bredenbury, Mooso-min, Spyhill. Esterhazy, Wymer. Churchbridge. Lorlie, Lemberg, and Melville.AT THE Saturday afternoon sessions held in Melville Stadium, Murray Armstrong gave lectures and demonstrated fundamentals and plays necessary in hockey. Al the same time he instructed poten- • tial coaches on how to put these . fundamentals over with the piayersj and some of the better ways ot con-j^ ducting a practice session.Also discussed was the physiology,-of coaching and the mental attitude of p la vers. Wally Stinson of the { SRM was in charge of the physical ' fitness end of the lectures which he discussed at some detail. Al Pick- ; ard. past president of the CAKA was in command of the refereeing ' end of the school and in this divec- 1 tion there were both talks and demonstrations. 1After discussing the rules in the ( book and interpretation thereof. -the individuals attending the school were able to see them in practice when they were taken to Y'orkton to witness' the Yorkton Legionaires-Melville Millionaires hockey game, at the Sunday sessions Armstrong with the aid of Angus Juckes, Hap Edwards. ’Ran Clearwater, and Red McPherson of the Millionaires and Joe Sauve cf Regina Pats, ‘demonstrated on the ice many fun-•damentals and their application.At the same time Chick Little and Clarence Hotterley. who were the referees at the Saturday game, and who were assisting Mr. Pickard In the refereeing school, also demons lrated referoeinsr techniques. r 1 = ' ■
