HALE STILL LEADS.FORSTER IS PUSHING- TO -THE FRONT, HOWEVER.Brooklyn's Representative in the Six Days’ Race Is Apparently EatingToo Much.rNothing occurred to relieve the mono-tonv of the contest in the six days’ bicycle race at Madison Square garden, New York, as. the morning wore on, except a spirited brush be- j 3 tween Hale and Maddox. The Irish veteran and the young Jerseyman went a couple of miles at a 2:30 gait, finishing almost neck and neck. The other riders seemed to take little or no interest In affairs about them. McLeod, the tail ender looked utterly fagged out. Gannon was saddle sore. Casisdy rode around, his cheJt resting on a huge pillow, and Asb-inge-r rode along with apparent effort. Reading was not very buoyant of manner and Maddox was puffing heavily, although he was equal to the occasion when Major Taylor challenged him to a brus-h cf one mile. Later Cassidy made the pace for his opponents, he, too. reaching a three mile gait.Major Taylor, who eats and drinks more than any or the others, was doubled up on his wheel during the morning. He was suffering from cramps caused by an over indulgence in cold liquid. Smith, the Saratoga lad, was gibing him.At 2 o’clock the score stood as follows:Name.Miles Lp’sName.Miles Lp'sHale ........8Pierce ...0Forster ....1.1910Maddox ....... 1.0503Rice ......... 1.1781Ashlnger..... 1,0441Reading ..... 1,1587Cassidy ...... 1.0200Taylor ....... 1.1168Gllck ...6Moore ....... 1,1452Gannon...... 918a!
