The victory boosted the Chain Gang into undisputed possession of first olace. The team is the only one in the six-team circuit with a spotless mark at the end of two rounds. It was the first loss in two outings 3for WCHN. eIn other battles, all played on the YMCA hardwood, the Norwich s Shoe Company broken into the 3, win column and knocked the Pennysavers from the unbeaten ranks with a 49-46 overtime deci- j g sion and Winans entered the vie- ^ tory column at the expense of the j winless Ackley Supply club, meas-uring the loop’s only twice-beaten *quint by a 62-43 score. IMalady, a carrot-thatched center 1 with a nifty jump shot, canned 29 *; to pace the Chainmen to their easy * triumph over the radio gang. Stewart and Leahy provided con- j I siderable support with 17 and 12 respectively. Dave Petley netted tc 18 for the losers. The Chain Gang ! snapped a first period deadlock of 3; 13-13 with a second quarter blitz B of 25-12 and added a 20-7 clincher 1 tc in the third quarter.The Shoe Company-Pennysaversbattle had to go into overtime to II be settled. The Shoemen, who staged a fourth period rally to create a game-ending knot of 44-44, outpointed the Pennysavers 5-2 in the *three-minute extra session with buckets by Barry Simmons and Dennis Doyle bringing the victory. Simmons dipped in 20 for the winners and Doyle added 16. Bill Morrell hit double column figures also with 11. Nick Sylstra and Don McGraw, whose rugged board work kept the losers in the thick of the struggle, paced the scoring with 18 and 12 respectively.The Pennysavers led at all the stops by margins of 13-6, 21-19 ; and 35-31 but Simmons and Doyle j led a last quarter surge that forced ‘ the fray into overtime and the | same pair of sharpshooters sparked I the victory drive in that session, i Winans grabbed an early lead in j the battle with Ackley Supply and was never headed. The quarterly scores were 12-3, 25-13 andn 43-31. Frank Bencnati, who controlled the boards in masterful style, bucketed 26 for Winans. Ray Figary tossed in 16 for a share of the honors.
