Blue Devils PlayOhiTrojans TonightEager to improve on a 1-i record, Hal Cuff’s Austin JC basketball team heads for Mason City, Iowa, tonight to take on the Mason City Trojans in a non-conference game at Roosevelt Fieldhouse.The Blue Devils showed good improvement in stopping Mankato State Freshmen, 77-75, in their last outing after losing the opener to Pillsbury College at Owatonna.The contest, first of two for Austin JC this week, begins at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils return to action Saturday night against Concorida JC of St. Paul at home to open the Southern Minnesota Junior College Conference title chase.Although Cuff hailed the victory as a step in the right di-rec ion, he is not entirely satis-fied and indicated the Blue Devils must be more consistent to beat coach Ed Chuck’s Trojans, who edged Marshalltown JC 90-87 in their last outing to snap a three-game losing streak.The situation will be eased with the return of forward Ed Hanson, a regular last year, who is reported eligible for the start of the second semester. If Hanson is ready, it will give the Blue Devils more scoring punch and rebouding in the front line.Other starters will be Mike at Center, Jerry dwelling, Hanson or Larry Libersky at forwards and Charlie Granholmand Rich Decker at the guards.Gary Hovland, who played well against the Mankato Freshman is another possible starter at forward, while Tom Ennen, Lynn Balgeman, Dave Taylor, Mike Fergeson, Bob Denny, Bruce Rogne and Dan Moulton will be ready for reserve duty.The Blue Devils will hold a slight height advantage over Mason City, which will field a team that averages just over the six foot mark.The Trojans, who have had defensive troubles, will be paced by forward Dave Rosonke, the most consistent scorer with a19 point average. Guards Bill Strottman and Leon Haxton andcenter Ray Coyier are averaging around the 13 point mark.
