Corbett has posted #1,000 with the Police Gazette as a bait with which he says he hopes to induce Sharkey to make another match with him. With the money Corbett left this statement:'•I have today deposited $1,000 with the sporting editor of the Police Gazetti as a forfeit for a match with Tom Sharkey. I am willing to box Sharkey in public, the gate money to goto charity. But I would prefer to box him for $5,000 a side in private, each side to have 10 men present, JamjbsJ. Corbett.1’ Corbett talked very seriously about offer, and said: “I mean businessI hove suffered by all this talk of fake, aud everybody says that I did it/ I felt it very keenly. My honor is at stake, and I must do something to show the public that I am right; so I give Tom Kharkov this chance to light me againII chink that I can lick him, but some people think I can’t. I’m going to leave this money posted a week, and if Shar-i key has any fight in him he can show it in that time. If he doesn’t cover i:,i then I’ll go out and fight Jeffries. Hebeat Sharkey, and I’ll fight him.”
