Pleasant high senior guard who was named to the Iowa Daily Press Association fourth team, was one of the 55 gridders on the five all-state teams honored at the A11-State football banquet held in the Memorial Union at Iowa University Sunday afternoon.The all-staters were introduced and each one received certificates from the IDPA and the Iowa Football Coaches Assn., cosponsors of the event. Other Southeast Seven gridders honored besides Sammons were Scott Swartzendruber, Washington fullback, who made second team, and Gary Wilson, Fairfield center, a fourth team selection. Mike Carroll an Ottumwa guard, a first team choice, was also among those honored.Others from here who attended the banquet besides Sammons were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sammons; Coach Bob Evans, Assistant Coaches Dick Stiles and Tom Young, Tom Bell, his son, Dick, Chuck Evans and myself.Others with Mt. Pleasant or Iowa | Wesleyan connections there were Edd Bowers, Grinnell college grid coach; Dick Wuest, Decorah high coach; Warren Woepking, assistant coach at Decorah; Don Lamm, Iowa City West coach; Phil Johnson, Ames coach; Dave Mineart, Norwalk coach and Chuck Har-nisch, Ottumwa, coach. Johnson is president of the IFCA, Lamm and Mineart are directors. Evans is a past president and director and was named to Iowa Coaches Hall ol Fame last year. Five more coaches were inducted into it Sunday and received plaques. None are from this area. In the southeast district, the class I winner is Clyde Bean of Iowa City high and the district II winner. Lee Crawford of Tipton. The state coach of the year will be picked later. He explained how the all-state teams are selected and introduced the speakers and special guests.
