AWC Wrestlers Host MesaHoKamsTomorrowlelt;1.iard^7e;etorin-ni*;ani-2odtlatur-r7in--10rillleni RBefore the svrestHng season started, Arizona Western College Coach Glenn Mayle predicted that Mesa Community College would be tough.How tough is what Mayle and his Matadors will find out tomorrow afternoon starting at 3 when AWC hosts the IloKams in the Western gymnasium.After tomorrow’s mat cl i the Mat adors lake a brief rest before entertaining Glendale Community College Saturday afternoon at 1.“These two matches should give us a very good indication on how we will fare in state competition this year. Mayle said. '‘We know Mesa is loaded and Glendale isn’t that bad of a team ”Mesa features 10 people who won state championships last year in high school. Most of these champions come from either Iowa or Wisconsin.11 Mesa’s main strength appears to be in the lower weights,” the second*year coach said.If this is true it appears that AWC’s 118-pound Reed-Green well, 12ft -pound Jim May, I'M-pound Mark Rertsch have their work mi out for them.However, Mayle isn’t hanking the success of tomorrow’s match jusi on three wrestlers.“I tell my kids to wrestle every match as an individual and the final score will lake care of itself,” the AWC coach said, “I feel each kid should have his own pressure instead of placing all the pressure mi I he wrestlers who wrestle I he final few matches.”Western enters ihe weekend in near top physical shape. Ira Murphy, the Matadors’ l!*(l pounder, has a cut above his eve which required three stitches to close, hut Mayle feels the former Yuma High ace will 1m? ready by tomorrow. The only other Matador sidelined is Rob Kstupinnn, who also wrestled at Yuma High last vear.“Boh has a hack injury and won’t be ready until next week.” Mayle added.When he is ready, Estupinmi will challenge Greg Garcia for the lft7-pound berth.Either Ben Rowe or Jeff Mlireer will lw Western s entry in the 142-pound match with Mike Gnu* set for action in the 150-pound affair.At 158 jxnmds Western will have Sieve Cnirqjos with Garcia at 107 pounds.
